Baby I got you a gym

For the past few months as i interact with the "bump" i started to ask myself how much of the outside world is my unborn child really aware of. Talking seems to get some reactions in the form of kicks and pushing movements. So laying in bed one night i started to discuss with my wife the importance of trying to get some familiar sounds that the baby might be able to recognise outside of the womb. I started to think about musical books, a mobile to hang above the cot. I then released that a play gym would be something that would be needed at some point in the first few months so rather than wait i logged on to my computer and located a few baby gym's online. Amazon was a good place to start looking as i always find the reviews helpful. Anyway i managed to narrow it down to the Fisher-price rainforest gym, which looked nice, had plenty to keep the baby entertained with and came with some nice musical settings.

Even though we still had a few months left before the baby was born i decided that i would just get hold of it a bit early, so i order one online. When it arrived i was definately please with my purchase, although i have set it up yet. My main interest for buying this so early was for the sounds and lights that come with it. In the evenings i often lay in bed and push the musical / light section of the gym (which can be detached from the main part of the gym) up to the bump and just let it play for a few minutes. My hope is that the baby might find these sounds familiar after he / she is born and that this familiarity might help calm the baby. Of course i could be completely wrong and this might have the opposite effect and end up upsetting the baby, i guess only time will tell know.

For now i am going to carry on with this small but important interaction as i see it ,and wait to see the effects in a few weeks.

I will of course let you know if my plan was a success.
